Homage to Copland

"Homage to Copland" is a short piano piece inspired by various works I've studied by the great American master Aaron Copland. Composed while I was studying at Juilliard with Samuel Adler, a student of Copland's, my work features harmonies based on the intervals of the 4th and 5th used to imitate the quintessential "American" sonority. One can also hear frequently changing meters, quirky rhythms, and a generally free temperament.

Homage to Mompou

The great Catalan composer Federico Mompou fills his music with voluptuous harmonies and folk tunes from his native Spain. My miniature pays homage to his unique and spacious sound world. Listen particularly for the ways the harmonies unfold throughout the piece.
